How To Make Solar Panels - Homemade Solar Energy Panels

With more people looking into alternative energy these days, you may have found yourself considering homemade solar panels.  Perhaps you are simply someone who enjoys tinkering with various objects and you would like to create your own solar panels as a personal project.  You may even want to work on solar panels with a child for a school project.  However, more than likely, you are looking to get started on using solar energy, so you will want to make sure you make the best functioning panels possible.

You will need to power your panel with a rechargeable acid or lead battery that is at least 12 volts.  You will also need a battery box, a DC meter, a handheld drill and an inverter.  It is best if it is deep cell because this type is conducive to continuous use.  The battery box is meant to protect the battery as well as the energy the battery gives off.  The battery itself should be rather small like a 12-volt lead.

When you choose your DC meter, you want to make sure it is compatible with the battery’s voltage as well as the DC input.  If you want this energy to power your AC appliances, you will also need an inverter.  Remember most appliances use this power source, so you will more than likely find the inverter to be essential.  Together, the DC meter and the inverter will convert the solar panel’s energy to a form that is usable for your home or other structure.

Once you have assembled all these pieces, you will need to use the drill to put them together properly.  You will have to connect the meter and the input at the top of the battery box.  However, you can use insulated wire to attach the meter to the battery as well as connect the battery to the panel and DC inlet.  After you have sealed the lid shut, you can then begin using the panel.  You will need to let it charge for about eight hours before it is ready.
